Before the makeup lesson

I will email you a questionnaire which will help me to understand how to design and structure your makeup lesson. It’s a good idea for you to start thinking about what you would like to achieve from your lesson and start collecting photos from magazines or on your phone/iPad of makeup you like.

Where will the lesson be held?

I will either come to your home or you can come to me in Harrogate. I currently don’t have a makeup studio, although I’m working on that… So I work from my home in Harrogate. If I travel outside of the Harrogate area, I may charge extra to cover my time and petrol. I am very happy to come to you and if I do so, I will need a table, chairs and a light room (natural light by a window is best).

What do I need to bring with me?

I will provide everything including makeup, brushes, mirrors and makeup removers.  All you need to bring with you is your makeup bag (so that I can help you have a sort out) and perhaps some photos that have inspired you (no pressure here though if you would rather wait for my advice).  Please wear your ‘going out’ makeup to the lesson if possible, so that I can see what level you are used to.

How long will it last?

My lessons are 1, 2 and 3 hour long.  However I highly recommend having a 2 or 3 hour lesson to ensure you get as much from your time with me as possible (unless you’re just having a ‘top up’ on a previous lesson when 1 hour works fine).  I go through everything from good lighting to brushes to primers and contouring and eye makeup so the longer the lesson, the more time we have to really go over each of these things in detail so you can learn what works best specifically for you. A good makeup lesson is a great investment in YOU and the information you take away can last you a lifetime.

What happens at the lesson?

I will teach you step-by-step how to apply your makeup, demonstrating each step as we go along. You will apply your own makeup but I will show you each step and assist you as we go through each process.  I usually have a prepared agenda which we will follow to ensure you get the most out of your lesson.

What if I feel embarrassed about my skin or makeup skills?

I promise I am not intimidating at all and I only want the best for you.  Believe me, I have plenty of my own insecurities (like many women) and my role is to make sure you feel comfortable and at ease in this fun, positive experience.  I truly believe every woman is beautiful in her own way and we should all celebrate our uniqueness – I can help you use makeup to look the best you’ve ever looked.

What brands of makeup will you use?

I use lots of different makeup brands. Over the years I’ve worked with lots of different makeup and I pride myself on selecting the best of the best from each brand. Some are expensive luxury brands and some are cheaper drug store brands but either way, I only ever use them because I truly believe they are the best at doing the job in hand. They include: Mac, Tom Ford, Charlotte Tilbury, Dior, Laura Mercier, Clinique, Bobbi Brown, Rimmel, Bourjois & Estee Lauder.

Will you try to sell me makeup?

No not at all.  I pride myself on being completely independent and will give you loads of great advice about which makeup products you should invest in and also how to save you money by teaching you how to stop making expensive makeup mistakes.
