Booking your wedding makeup trial is one of the most exciting steps in the lead-up to your big day. But if you’ve never had one before, you might be wondering what actually happens — and how to make the most of it.

As a bridal makeup artist, I always say the trial is just as important as the wedding day itself. It’s where we find your perfect look, so you feel confident, relaxed and truly yourself when you walk down the aisle.

Here’s what to expect — and how to get ready.

What Is a Wedding Makeup Trial?

Think of your trial as a personalised consultation and mini dress rehearsal rolled into one.

We’ll sit down together, talk through your vision, your dress, your venue, your usual makeup style, and how you want to feel on the day. Then I’ll create a look that aligns beautifully with all of that — while keeping you comfortable in your own skin.

When Should I Book My Trial?

Ideally, around 2 to 3 months before your wedding. That gives us enough time to tweak anything if needed — but it’s still close enough to reflect your current skin tone, hair colour and bridal details.

If you’re planning a pre-wedding shoot, we can even time your trial for the same day so you can look your best for the photos.

What Should I Bring?

To make the most of your trial, here’s what I recommend:

📸 Inspiration photos – Pinterest boards, Instagram saves, or pictures from my gallery you love
👗 A photo of your dress – or similar styling (neckline, vibe)
💄 Wear your usual makeup – so I can see what you feel comfortable in
🧴 Skincare products you’re using – especially if you have sensitivities

Don’t worry about turning up “done” — just come as you are. I’ll guide you from start to finish.

What Happens During the Trial?

We’ll chat first — about your wedding, your style, your skin, and any worries or preferences

1. I’ll prep your skin and apply your full makeup look
2. You’ll see everything as we go and can give feedback at each step
3. At the end, we’ll take photos so you can see how it photographs
4. You’ll go away with clarity, confidence, and excitement for the big day!

🕐 How long does it take? Around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on how many looks we test or tweak.

Can I Bring Someone With Me?

I completely understand wanting to share this moment with your loved ones — but I recommend coming to your trial on your own.

Why? Because the trial is all about you — your face, your preferences, your comfort — and having extra opinions in the room can sometimes distract from that. What feels beautiful and right for you can get lost in well-meaning input from others.

That said, I absolutely welcome you to:

• Bring photos of your bridesmaids’ dresses or overall styling

• Share a few trial-day selfies with your friends afterwards

• Or send them a quick snap if you’d like their reaction privately

This time is your space to relax, explore your look, and build confidence in what we create together.
