There’s a lovely thread running through three recent reviews from my brides. Alongside how their makeup looked and lasted, they remembered how they felt while we were getting ready.
Listened to. Relaxed. Confident.
Bronte described me as “the calm amongst the chaos”. Rebecca spoke about feeling confident and radiant. Jenny appreciated having her individual concerns understood.
Reading their words reminded me how much wedding makeup is about the whole experience—from our first conversation and trial to that moment you sit in my chair on your wedding morning.

Will my makeup artist understand the look I want?
You might have a clear picture of your wedding makeup. Or you might know how you want to feel, without quite knowing which colours, products or techniques will get you there.
Either is a perfectly good place to begin.
Rebecca wrote:
“She listened to my vision and created an amazing result – even better than I had imagined!”
Listening is where I start. I want to understand how you usually wear your makeup, what you love, what you’re unsure about and how you imagine yourself looking on the day.
Some brides feel most comfortable with soft, natural makeup. Others love more definition or a glamorous eye. We can explore what feels right for you, with your features, skin and personal style in mind.
You should feel comfortable saying what you think throughout the process.
What if I want to change something after my bridal trial?
Your trial gives us time to try your ideas and talk through the details together.
Perhaps you’d like the eyes a little softer, a different lip colour or a change to the way your skin feels. Those conversations help us refine your look.
Bronte said:
“Mel was more than happy to make adjustments and find the right products for me and the look I wanted.”
You don’t need to worry about offending me by asking for an adjustment. I want your honest thoughts.
It’s also useful to notice how your makeup wears after the trial. How does it feel a few hours later? Are you happy with it in photographs? Is there anything you’d like us to revisit?
That feedback helps us prepare for the wedding day with a shared understanding of your look.
What if I have particular skin concerns—or I’m an older bride?
Jenny mentioned a blemish she wanted concealed and some lines she wanted softened. She described me as:
“So calm and considerate of my concerns”
You’re welcome to tell me about anything that’s on your mind, however small it might seem.
As an older bride, you may want guidance on makeup that suits your skin now. You might be concerned about foundation looking heavy, concealer settling into lines or eye makeup feeling too strong.
We can look at skin preparation, coverage, texture and placement together. Sometimes a lighter touch in one area and a little more definition in another can make a lovely difference.
My aim is to help you feel comfortable with the finish and recognise yourself in the mirror.
Will my wedding makeup last all day?
This is understandably one of the questions brides ask most often. Your makeup has a lot to see you through: getting ready, the ceremony, photographs, hugs, eating and dancing.
Bronte told me that her makeup, and that of her three bridesmaids and mum, lasted:
“all the way through from morning to midnight”
Jenny also said her makeup and lashes lasted through eating and dancing.
Those are their individual experiences, and every bride’s skin and wedding day are different. Skin preparation, suitable products and careful application all play a part in helping makeup wear well.
At your trial, we can discuss how makeup usually behaves on your skin and any concerns you have about longevity. I’ll also advise you on any touch-ups worth planning for, particularly your lips after eating and drinking.

A chance to breathe before the ceremony
Wedding mornings can be full of lovely activity. There are people arriving, photographs being taken, questions being asked and the growing excitement of everything becoming real.
For Bronte, sitting down for her makeup offered something she hadn’t necessarily expected:
“it gave me chance to breathe and relax in the lead up to our ceremony.”
I loved reading that.
Your time in the makeup chair can be a little pause in the middle of it all. A chance to sit down, let someone look after you and enjoy being part of the morning.
We’ll discuss timings beforehand, including makeup for anyone else in your bridal party, so that we have a clear plan.
Whether I’m looking after you alone or your bridesmaids and family too, I want everyone who sits in my chair to feel welcome and cared for.
Feeling ready for your wedding day
What stayed with me most in these reviews was how differently each bride described her experience, while returning to those same feelings of calm, confidence and being understood.
That’s what I hope to bring to your wedding morning.
If you’re planning your wedding in Harrogate or elsewhere in Yorkshire, you can explore my wedding makeup page to see more of my work and find out about the trial and wedding day experience.
When you’re ready, send me your wedding date, venue and how many people would like makeup. I’d love to hear what you’re planning.
Mel x
